In Loving Memory of John Harold Scott

John Harold Scott passed away peacefully on July 2, 2026, after a courageous battle with lung cancer. John was born on June 29, 1952, to Nelma Wilkinson Scott and Clifford Scott. He enjoyed a wonderful childhood growing up with his parents and his beloved sister, Berline Loudon "Berni”.

On December 28, 2001, John married the love of his life, Dorothy, after several years of dating. When John became part of our wonderfully crazy family, he embraced his role as a husband, father, and grandpa with his whole heart. He loved each of us deeply and always made sure we knew just how much we meant to him.

John spent many years as a truck driver, traveling the country and seeing countless states along the way. He enjoyed attending car shows, camping, spending time with friends, Milky Way candy bars, and chocolate shakes. But above all else, John loved his family. He adored Dorothy and cherished every moment they spent together. Being a grandpa brought him endless joy, and he treasured every minute with his grandchildren.

John was one of the funniest, kindest, and sweetest people you could ever meet. Every now and then, he’d show a little attitude that would make everyone laugh. When someone caught him being a little snippy, he’d flash that unforgettable smile, giggle, and say, “Sorry, I was having a moment.”

He had a special bond with each of his grandchildren and made sure every one of them felt loved and important. Whether he was cracking jokes, giving hugs, sneaking them candy, or telling each one they were his favorite, he always made them feel special. He attended as many of their activities as he could—sports, dance recitals, cheer competitions, birthday parties, or simply spending time together in the backyard.

John was famous for hiding fudge in his dresser drawer so Dorothy wouldn’t catch him eating sweets. Even though he knew his diabetes meant he shouldn’t indulge, his sweet tooth usually won. As his health declined, we all enjoyed sneaking him a Milky Way, a Coke, or a chocolate shake to brighten his day. His smile and the heartfelt little “thank you” that followed always made our day just as much as it made his.

Grandpa John was truly one of a kind. He will be missed more than words can express. We love you, old man.

John is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy Scott; his children, Melanie Scott, Michelle Ostmark, Ronnie Manzanares, and Roger Manzanares; and his cherished grandchildren: Aubrey and Jacob, Erik and Shelby, Alyssa and Adelicio, Angel and Azaria, Jordan, Jayden, Elyvia and Siaosi, Makena, Madan, Asher, Shane, Jessica, and James.

He also leaves behind his beloved great-grandchildren: Owen, Cooper, Evelyn, Zayla, Skye, Ezekiel, Wesley, Braelyn, and Everly.

John is also survived by his father-in-law, John Martinez; his sister, Berline Loudon ; his sister- and brother-in-law, Elaine and Kent McDonald; Perry Johnston; many nieces, nephews, extended family members, dear friends; and his bonus grandchildren, Miguel, Madi, Stephanie, River, and Savannah.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Nelma and Clifford Scott; his mother-in-law, Rose Martinez; his son-in-law, Adam Ostmark; and his brothers-in-law, Chris Martinez and Johnny Martinez.
