Kelvin K. "Chub" Chynoweth

February 12, 1939 — June 5, 2026

Kelvin K. Chynoweth was born on February 12, 1939, to Lloyd and Hilda Neilson Chynoweth. Delivered at Kanab Hospital as a healthy 10-pound baby, he grew up in Henryville, Utah, alongside his three older siblings: Gail Chynoweth, Donald Chynoweth, and Nancy Nickerson. Though he was a lean adult, he was an extremely chubby baby, which inspired his lifelong nickname, “Chub.”

Chub grew up playing baseball and basketball, and he later became an excellent golfer who passed his passion for the sport on to his family. His other hobbies included fishing at the Gorge, spending time with lifelong friends, and relaxing with his dog on his lap.

He met the love of his life, Jacqueline Turley, and they were married on May 5th, sharing 62 years of companionship. Chub cared for Jackie like a princess, making sure she had everything she needed. Even when his strength was faltering, he remained the arm she leaned on.

Chub worked as the Electrical Superintendent at the Salt Lake City International Airport until his retirement. Afterward, he took shifts at the Bonneville Golf Course so he could play more golf and share those benefits with his family.

To Chub, relationships were his greatest accomplishments rather than accolades or awards. He was not a man of huge gestures but a collection of simple, impactful moments—consistent and unwavering. He was a pillar of strength for his family, the wise advisor during difficult times, and the man who helped without being asked. With his raspy laugh and peaceful nature, he made everyone feel important. It’s like he knew the secret to life, not pushing it down your throat, but gently prodding you in that direction. His humble example, his comforting presence, his hand squeezes, and his wise farewells whispered in your ear as you hugged him goodbye provided a sense of peace and understanding.

Kelvin and Jackie were blessed with two children: Wendy Hunsaker (Les) and John K. Chynoweth (Shurene). He leaves behind a beautiful posterity of five grandchildren—Heather Hunsaker Erickson, Ashley Ann Pascoe (Connor), Dylan K. Chynoweth, Jager Kole Chynoweth, and Jade Jacqueline Chynoweth—and four great-grandchildren: Hailey Artella Erickson, Hayden Leslie Erickson, Jaquelyn Mar Pascoe, and Oakley Jane Pascoe.

Chub passed away peacefully in his home on June 5th, 2026, surrounded by his entire family. He battled COPD with the bravery of a warrior, never letting his struggle show. Following his final wishes to avoid any fuss, the family is forgoing a traditional funeral and instead held an intimate gathering to enjoy good food at his favorite restaurant, La Fountain Mexican Restaurant. He wanted laughter and love to be his legacy. Thank you for being the best Dad, Papa, and friend.
