Our beloved husband, father, son, uncle and friend, Michael Thomas Sandberg 58; passed away on June 26, 2026 at the University of Utah medical center following a stroke.
He was born on September 17, 1967 in Cedar City, Utah, to Richard Garth and Marilyn Thomas Sandberg. He was the second of six children. He married the love of his life, Betty Joy Heiner in the Manti, Utah Temple on August 22, 2003. He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Mike served a mission for the Lord in the New York Rochester Mission. Mike had a strong testimony of Jesus Christ.
He grew up in Nevada, Virginia, Missouri and finally Utah, due to his father's job. Mike graduated from Alta High School in Sandy, Utah. When Mike was four years old, his father gave him his first model airplane. From that first airplane he gained a great love of building models.
He attended and graduated from Dixie State College in St. George, Utah in Power Plant and Airframe for airplanes. While he attended school he lived with his Grandma Sandberg. He was always such a great comfort to her. Mike loved camping, stargazing, and road trips with his family.
For many years he struggled with adult onset diabetes. Due to his diabetes, he suffered a through the knee amputation. Because of his unstoppable character, he kept on going until he was able to walk again, assisted by a walker. Mike endured many hardships associated with his disabilities, amidst adversity of every kind. He finally got accustomed to his new prosthetic and would be found — out and about with his electric wheelchair even in the middle of winter in shorts. Mike loved grilling even if it was in a blizzard.
Because of his love for his fellowmen, he became an organ donor. He is survived by his loving wife, Joy of 22 years and daughter Emily.
