Robert William
Kelly
October 26, 1940 – May 12, 2026
Robert William Kelly, age 85, passed away in Southern Utah, leaving behind a legacy of service, wisdom, and steadfast dedication to family and community. Born on October 26, 1940, in Cincinnati, Ohio, Robert was the beloved son of Thomas Robert Kelly and Marian Blanche Daly Kelly (known as Peggy).
A proud veteran, Robert honorably served his country in the United States Army, carrying throughout his life the values of discipline, service, and patriotism that defined his character. His commitment to serving others extended well beyond his military years. He later founded American Legion Post #142, where he faithfully served as commander, creating a place of fellowship and support for fellow veterans and their families.
Robert was widely respected as a brilliant thinker, a gifted writer, and a trusted voice in the preparedness community. As the author and publisher of Practical Preparedness articles on SurvivalBlog.com under the pen name "OldBobbert", he became a beacon to countless readers who valued his thoughtful guidance, practical wisdom, and forward-thinking approach to life’s uncertainties. His work empowered others to prepare wisely and live with greater confidence and resilience.
A successful real estate investor, Robert applied his sharp intellect and disciplined judgment to every endeavor. He was equally known for his generosity, often volunteering his time and financial expertise to help others navigate difficult decisions and plan for the future. Many sought his counsel, and all who knew him appreciated his willingness to share his knowledge with passion and kindness.
Above all, Robert was devoted to his family. He is lovingly survived by his wife, Kathleen Louise Maley Kelly; his children, William C. Mers-Kelly, Theresa C. Goddard, Michael J. Mers-Kelly, and Robert T. Kelly; and many extended family members and friends who will cherish his memory and carry forward the lessons he shared.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Robert Kelly and Marian Blanche Daly Kelly, and his brother Michael Allen Kelly.
Robert will be remembered as a man of intelligence, integrity, quiet strength, and unwavering service. His life was one of preparation—not only for the challenges of this world, but for the lasting legacy he would leave in the hearts and minds of those he touched.
A celebration of life with military honors will be held at a later date.
