Steve Capson Anderson

October 3, 1953 — June 13, 2026

Steven Capson Anderson, age 72, passed away on June 13, 2026, after a short but hard-fought battle with cancer, at St. Mark’s Hospital, just blocks away from the home he grew up in. Steve was born on October 3, 1953 to Kenneth D. Anderson and Gloria Capson Anderson.

A lifelong resident of Salt Lake, Steve graduated from Granite High School in 1972. Steve spent his youth enjoying the outdoors and making memories with his many friends. Following high school, Steve served a two year mission in the Gulf States, for his church, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints an accomplishment he was always very proud of. Steve spent his life working as an auto mechanic, a career where he used his hands and his problem-solving skills to help countless people throughout his career. His son inherited his talent for working on cars, and his daughters were especially grateful for his knowledge and willingness to rescue them from many breakdowns and lockouts over the years. On February 1, 1978, Steve married Diana Rae Cannon. Together they welcomed three children, Stephanie, Scott and Haley. Though they later divorced in 1985, their shared love for their children remained a central part of his life’s journey. Steve’s greatest joy was his family. He loved nothing more than spending time with them, especially his grandchildren. He loved supporting them at their many sports games and activities. His family will fondly remember his love for crossword puzzles, and most of all his habit of telling his favorite stories over and over again-stories that will now be cherished by the family he loved so much.

He is survived by his children Stephanie (Barry) Berg, Scott (Jessica) Anderson, and Haley (Caleb Puzey) Anderson. His beloved grandchildren, Aidan, Baylee, Malcolm, Mason, Reece, and Owen. Brother, Doug (Marsha) Anderson, sister-in-law, Betty Anderson (Jeff), stepmother, Vivian Anderson, and half sister, Debbie Lee Anderson, and his six nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brother (Jeff Anderson), and sister (Sue Gamangasso).

A small family service will be held graveside at the Salt Lake Cemetery where he will be laid to rest by his family.
