Vicki McCormick, at the age of 62, passed away on Sunday, May 31st, 2026. You could write a novel about my mom, and it still wouldn't be enough to convey the meaning of her life to those she loved.
If you ask most, Vicki would be remembered for her compassion and love. She was the type to give you the shirt right off her back, though unless you were also a smaller person, it likely wouldn't fit, but that wouldn't stop her from trying. Second only to her love was her strength. Vicki was truly the strongest person I knew, maybe not in physical strength, as I had to help with taking the lid off her water cup, but in emotional and mental strength. Despite all the struggles she had, mostly being bedridden and on oxygen, you'd never find her complaining about how unfair life was. Even through all of that, she was the one to comfort others, the one to be there for you whenever you needed her, and always, every day I saw her, she would find the strength to smile. Even in her last couple of days in the hospital, the smiles on her face are what I choose to remember because that's who she was: a happy person who never let life's unfairness ever truly break her. Vicki, in short, will be remembered as an inspiration.
Vicki had many loves aside from family. Two that most would associate with her would, of course, be bears and Bigfoot. For any holiday ever, you could never go wrong with a gift themed in either of those. Bears were truly her spirit animal, while Bigfoot will always be her "White Whale." And I, for one, know that in the afterlife, as soon as she gets a free minute, she will be off to the mountains with her family to find this hidden Bigfoot in the forest. I can practically hear her words, "Ha, see, little mom, I told you he was real." Her sense of humor, when combined with her love and sweet look, was a real-life magic of its own. You wouldn't expect some of the jokes she would make to come out of such an angel, but that somehow made them even better.
Vicki was a truly beautiful soul, almost too sweet and precious for this world, yet we were lucky enough to be blessed with her in our lives. Her memory will forever stay with those who loved her. She will never be forgotten, as the love she gave was stronger than death, able to be felt well into the vale of tears.
May you rest in peace, Vicki, my mom, and find the adventures in the Green Lands as a renowned Bigfoot hunter that I know you want to be and that you weren't able to find within the confines of this mortal existence.
I love you Mom very berry much.
