In Loving Memory of William Michael "Mike" Chambers

William Michael "Mike" Chambers, 81, passed away on July 20, 2026, in Draper, Utah. From a heart attack after a choking incident.

Mike was born on June 13, 1945, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Rose Lamper Delaney and William Irwin Chambers. Although Chambers was his biological father, John Delaney was the only father Mike ever knew and played a significant role in his life. Sisters: Carole (Jay) Eaton, Margie (John) Sturm, Brother: Bryan Skipper Delaney.

On May 1, 1964, Mike married the love of his life, Nancy Jean Mead. Together they built a life filled with love, adventure, and family. They had two children Cindy Jean & Mark Michael Chambers. They were such a happy family.

Mike is survived his adoring daughter, Cindy Chambers (Cody) Skinner, Daughter-in-law Maria Chambers; his grandchildren, Christopher Michael Haskins, Amanda Rae (Aaron) Zippro, David Chambers, Lincoln (Shae) Chambers, Marnel Geronimo, and Martina (Jesse) Jasso, Austin (Melanie) Skinner, Devin (Melissa) Skinner his great-grandchildren, Lydia, Camila, Sterling, Aria, Makenzie, Maleah, Miley, Autumn, MJ, and DD; his great-great-grandson, Luca; and many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, and wonderful friends.

Proceeded in death by his parents Rose & John Delaney, son Mark Chambers, sister Carole (Jay) Eaton, sister Margie (John) Sturm, his amazing wife Nancy Mead Chambers, Brothers-in-law Andy Mead, Steven Mead, and Sister-in-law Shirley (Carl) Jones. 

Mike grew up in the Salt Lake Valley and was an amazing husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend. He lived hard, worked hard, and played hard. His greatest joy was his family. He loved taking everyone on adventures, creating unforgettable memories, and never missed an opportunity to support his children's sports and activities. He was such a fun dad, a mentor, protector, and the heart of his family.

Mike spent his career as a field construction boilermaker. He was an exceptional welder, admired by his mentors and coworkers for his craftsmanship, dedication, and strong work ethic.

From a very young age, Mike had a passion for cars, motorcycles, and racing. He learned mechanical skills from his dad and his brother-in-law, Jay, and went on to build numerous classic cars, custom motorcycles, and race cars. He raced at the Salt Lake Fairgrounds, Bonneville Raceway, Santana Raceway, and Riverton Wyoming. Mike proudly drove in the very first race ever held at Bonneville Raceway, where he earned Rookie of the Year honors. He raced car number 123 until Jay Eaton retired, then drove the number 70 until Jim Eaton was old enough to take the wheel. Mike loved anything fast and loud. He also loved food. He could eat anything anytime anywhere. He loved gambling, and monster trucks as well.

In September 1981, Mike suffered a brain aneurysm that changed the course of his life. Although he was no longer able to do many of the things he loved, he never lost his appreciation for life. Instead, he became grateful for every day he was given. His positive attitude, infectious smile, humor, quick whit, and unforgettable personality touched everyone he met.

For the last six years of his life, Mike lived at a care center where he became known and loved by everyone as "Alright Mike," or simply "Mikey." He brought laughter, kindness, and joy wherever he went. His passing leaves an enormous hole in the hearts of those who knew and loved him, but the memories he created will continue to bring smiles for years to come. We hope that whenever you hear someone say, "Alright," you'll think of Mike and smile.

To honor Mike's lifelong love of automobiles, motorcycles, and hot rods, a tribute ride will travel down State Street one final time before escorting him to his Celebration of Life.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.on Sunday, August 16, 2026, at Edison Street Events, 3331 S. Edison Street (150 E.), South Salt Lake, Utah. Dinner and drinks will be provided, so please come hungry. In true Mike fashion, he would want everyone to enjoy a great party together. Mixers, water, and children's drinks will be provided. Guests are welcome to bring their own alcoholic beverages.

Mike's legacy lives on through the family he cherished, the friends he inspired, and the countless lives he touched. He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten. Alright!
